Over the weekend I've been joining in with various online events related to
Timber Festival. The only things missing were trees. I had wondered about heading out to Feanedock where the festival would have been held but decided on somewhere nearer - Shipley Country Park - and walked under trees there.
Most of the park has been reclaimed after open cast mining; the bare land has returned to farmland, hedges have grown, but in the wider park few older trees remain. At its heart, though, sits a hill on which Shipley Hall stood, and this area was protected from the outcropping, so tall old trees still stand there
It's always worth looking upwards when walking by trees - to see branches swaying high above,
or spot birds, either in the leaf canopy or, as here, above it - look closely, just below the centre of the picture, and there's a small black dot which was a buzzard.
This wooded area is quite a contrast to Feanedock - older but with more formality to its planting - but it made a good alternative.
