Overstrand

On a blustery evening with the tide rapidly coming in we visited Overstrand, a clifftop village just outside Cromer. The smudge on the horizon is Cromer pier.

I hadn't intended to walk down the sloping path to sea level, but having wandered about looking at old fishing gear, and looked down at the sea lapping the walkway below, I couldn't resist heading downhill.

The path zigzags across the face of the cliff so at first I cautiously went down to the first bend, and then a bit lower, and lower, till I was at the bottom wondering how I'd ever get back up.

The tide was definitely high by this point. There must be sand out there somewhere but there was none to be seen at this point and the sea was splashing over onto the walkway, but dodging waves is always fun.

We pottered along, heading generally eastwards, past an area where the cliff had obviously collapsed into the sea, making these beach huts our destination, with the intention of turning back there.
At this point though there was another ramp leading upwards, so we followed it - but at the top realised we were quite lost.
Fortunately a combination of Google maps and some other walkers led us in the right direction, though the clifftop path we were now following got a little exciting at the point where the cliff had slipped. Temporary repairs had been made but it wasn't easy footing for someone like me with dodgy ankles.
I survived though and soon we were back among the flint houses of the village. Maybe a stroll round its streets would have been a more sensible option for the evening.
