Autumn on its way

The sun has returned this week, but it no longer holds the promise of warmer days to come. Instead, although it's still only August, it's a reminder to make the most of the last few weeks of warmth.

At the allotment late summer is definitely advancing - blackberries, runner beans, and pumpkins all mark the change of the season.

At home the rowanberries are turning orange, and apples starting to fall.

Out walking there are acorns and conkers on the trees, nights growing longer. Everything tells of the coming of autumn

So, I'm outside whenever possible - pottering about the garden instead of doing housework, eating lunch outside, sitting in the sun while I prepare the mountain of runner beans for the freezer, and out and about on two days. Autumn will be here soon enough
