Weekend away - part 1

Last weekend we headed for Norfolk and the sea - but first stop as usual was Belton House, just outside Grantham, arriving in time for a picnic lunch and a walk round the gardens and grounds.

There are Italianate gardens with topiary and formal bedding with views to the Orangery and church.

Behind the Orangery are four old medlar trees with their strange fruit.

medlar

And inside, a hothouse jungle

..and beyond these are'wilder' more natural grounds and the lake

  1. Splendid place, and good old National Trust! I have never tasted a medlar, I wonder what they are like.
