The advantage to returning regularly to one place is seeing the subtle changes week by week as Spring advances.
At Swan Lake, the reeds still look wintry, but the trees around the ponds are in blossom and starting to put out leaves.
Looking across the lake, there's a definite green tinge to the trees on the opposite bank
Since my last visit more wild flowers have opened - celandines, dead nettles, white violets and dandelions. I don't know who first decided that dandelions were undesirable - they're bright and cheery, and certainly say 'spring is here'.
Another, possibly the most well-known marker of warmer weather, is May blossom - and on one hawthorn situated in a sheltered spot, it's already out (despite the chilly nights we've had till recently)
We ambled a bit further this time towards the adjoining reserve at Manor Floods, but my favourite spot is by the first, most accessible, lake where the swans and other wildfowl gather to be fed.
