We've been to the National Trust's Dunham Massey property before but only wandered round the park, so being back in Manchester we decided to give the gardens a visit.
Unfortunately, most of Manchester seemed to be heading in the same direction too, and traffic was slow, which left us with less time than we'd have liked to explore.
Also, it turned out the gardens were much larger than I'd expected; instead of a few formal flower beds, there's a large wooded area to explore, and at this time of year it's full of the most wonderful rhododendron flowers.
We still haven't been inside the house; I'll save that for a rainy day.
Beyond an open lawned area and a stream, we found the rose garden, seemingly hidden away. It's not yet at its peak, with only a small fraction of the plants in flower - so there's another excellent reason to return before long :)
