Short Break in Norfolk

We've been intending taking a short break since the school term re-started in September, and at last we've found time for it!  Booking at almost the last minute, we chose Norfolk, as the weather forecast seemed better for there, and it turned out to be mostly sunny and warm.

By accident, rather than design, I stumbled on a lovely AirBnB in the small village of Itteringham, about half an hour from Cromer/Sheringham, handy for the National Trust places I wanted to visit, and with walks from the doorstep. I often find that either the accommodation is lovely or the location is. It's rare in my experience to get both just right, but we struck lucky when we went to Hertfordshire in spring, and we did again this time.

Our home for two nights was Beside the Willows, a well-equipped annex in an idyllic spot, with its own terrace overlooking the river Bure; the sort of place where you just want to sit, relax, and probably not stray further. There was outdoor furniture for sitting, a chiminea for colder evenings, fairy lights twinkling at night, and even a private sauna, though we didn't test it. I did go paddling though, walked to the village along quiet roads and back by the fields, before lunch on the decking, but the evening I'd hoped to eat outside under the fairy lights turned showery. I'll definitely be back in warmer weather.

It was only two nights, three days away from home - but the sort of short break which feels like a week away.
