For the last stop on our Lincolnshire holiday, we called in at an old favourite place, Belton House.
At mid-afternoon on a glorious Bank Holiday Saturday, it looked very busy - probably not as busy as a pre-Covid weekend, but the busiest place I've seen in quite a while.
I think most families were there for the playpark though (it's fantastic for children of all ages) as the minute we entered the gardens we left the crowds behind.
After so many days of dull cloud and rain, the sunshine was almost a shock, the open Italian garden feeling
too warm, so we headed for the relative cool of the woodland walks around the ponds.
In total the walk is only a mile and a half or so, (we didn't quite follow the route shown
here on Belton House's website but near enough) but the
previous day's walk plus attempting the stairs at
Tattershall Castle, had left my knees feeling far too weak, and I was glad of the numerous seats.
Fortunately it was a glorious day to just sit and watch the reflections in the water and swans paddling by.
